Small Business Spotlight: Trill League

Trill League was created by artist Anthony Piper as a personal project and has since taken on a life its own. Trill League is a comic book satire of the DC Universe. The series parodies traditional superhero characters, turning them into unapologetically black super heroes, villains and sidekicks all with their own personalities, vendettas and backstories. Instead of the duo of Batman and Robin, we now witness hilarious banter between Blackmayne and Sparrow AKA Lil Spizzy. Superman and Wonder Woman are now the A-List couple America loves known as Swolemayne and Wondeisha.

Fans of the comic book series have compared it to the Boondocks, a cartoon that once aired on Adult Swim which initially started off as a comic strip, and frequently advocate for the comic to follow in its steps and become a cartoon as well. Ask and you shall receive because Anthony revealed on the Trill League Instagram page that he recently pitched the idea to Universal Studios and is working on materials for a follow up meeting. There’s hella comic shorts on the Instagram page as well for your viewing pleasure (pro tip: make sure you check out the Meek Mill sequence, it’s funny af). If you like what you see, Anthony has digital issues and merchandise are available for purchase on the Trill League website. I’m so glad I stumbled upon Trill League and its characters, I have no doubt in my mind that Anthony Piper is going to go on to do great things with the comic. But don’t take my word for it, check out a sequence from Trill League below.
