Obstruction of Humanity

10-foot tall interactive installation for TILA Studios’ 2018 Ain’t I a Woman exhibition. Fabricated from wood, clothesline and broken glass.

A floor length chandelier of shards of glass covered with questions and statements that question black women’s humanity. You don’t/won’t walk through shards. You avoid it like you would any other weapon. Essentially, refusing to dignify your humanity being questioned. This installation is purposely very obstructive. Women were encouraged to to add their own experiences of how their humanity has been attempted to be questioned.
